Several of the
more experienced Gallery Rifle shooters regularly
compete in competitions across the country, from Yorkshire to
Surrey, shooting mostly timed disciplines, 1500, Bianchi, MT & P&T with varying degrees of success, one or two of us usually taking away a trophy for one of the first
three places. Competition dates for 2008 can be found by clicking

The Rifles we
use are customised
Ruger
10-22s
(small-bore
.22) below left,
and Under-levers
(
full-bore pistol calibres,
38/.357/.44 etc ..) below right, fitted
with Telescopic sights or Red-Dot sights depending
on the types of target, and distances.
We shoot a countrywide Postal competition called the "Phoenix League" where the competition organisers send us official targets, they are shot at our club and the results posted back to the organisers. This has been a great success as the members that take part, usually manage a 1st 2nd or 3rd in their respective disciplines and LCB Marksmen won the team event for seven seasons running.

Gallery
Rifle is an action discipline
which can be shot standing, kneeling or sitting, with either a
.22 calibre or a pistol calibre rifle (.38, .357, .44). and is shot at differing targets and distances,
with a
plethora of sighting scopes & red dots, depending on the
competition the individual is shooting.
Below are some examples of Gallery Rifle disciplines: ( follow the links for the full courses of fire )
Precision & Timed involves 30 shots at 3 targets at 3 distances 25-15-10 metres and timings from 2 mins to 2 secs.
Multiple Targets is 24 shots at 2 targets (side by side) at 25-15-10 metres timings from 15 secs to 6 shots in 8 secs.
The "1500" contains 5 matches shot at different distances with timings too complex to list here but consists of 150 rounds all shot in sixes, ( six shots - reload, six shots - reload etc.. ).
The "Bianchi" is another one too complex to explain here, has 4 stages from metal plates to moving targets, also shot in sixes.
The
"Man v Man" is an excellent
course of fire where two competitors shoot against each other side by side at
drop down plates positioned at varying
distances. The shooters retire to a start
line, and put both heels against a kick bar, At the start
signal the shooters will move
(quickly) to the shooting position, pick
up their rifle, (from approx
table height) load it and engage the
first few targets in the order specified previously. This is
followed by a compulsory reload before engaging a stop plate, the
first to drop the stop plate wins that leg. The bout will be
decided by the best of three legs and the winner and loser will
go forward to further bouts as determined by the scoring system.
This way each shooter will compete against at least two opponents
even if they have the misfortune to be knocked out in the early stages.
This is an exciting discipline to watch, because the two
competitors have to shoot quickly and accurately to win and more often than not
the stop plates are dropping together, but one falls on top of the other so the
one underneath was the one that went down first.

Shooters are a great bunch of people, the salt of the earth, they come from all walks of life, MP's and Judges, Teachers, Lawyers, Builders, Bricklayers, Drivers, Men and Women alike, all shoot side by side, no class distinction, sexism or racism, they will provide help and guidance to beginners and the experienced alike, if you have mislaid or forgotten anything on a shoot, the complete stranger standing next to you will think nothing of offering assistance in the way of Ammunition, Ear defenders, Eye protection, gun cleaner etc, he will muck in if your rifle gets jammed up, even an offer of the loan of a rifle is a frequent occurrence, if he can help... ...a shooter, will not see another wanting
